  • Level

Step 1: Attach Drawer Glides To Drawer Boxes

The first step is to attach the drawer glides to either side of the drawer box. Standard drawer glides come with two sets of two glides (so 4 in total): one set gets attached to the drawer and the other set gets attached to the cabinet box. Each set of glides have lefts and rights which is something to keep track of when you are placing the glide on the drawer box.

When attaching the glides to the drawer, the wheels go in the back and the front lines flush with the front of the drawer box. Using a screwdriver, you will screw the glides on the drawer box through the holes in the glides. To ensure durability, add a couple screws on either side.

Step 2: Add Brackets To Back Of The Drawer Glide

Now take your other set of drawer glides to attach to your cabinet box. This set of drawer glides should come with rear mount brackets that will help you mount onto the back rail of the cabinet box. Slide these brackets on the back of your glides.

Step 3: Attach The Drawer Glides To Cabinet Box

Once you have your brackets on the end of the drawer glides, you will align the front of the drawer glide with the front of the face frame of the cabinet box. Using your screwdriver, the front of the drawer glide gets screwed to the face frame flush at the front and resting on the lower rail. The back of the drawer glide containing the bracket, will get screwed into the back rail of the cabinet box. The Wood Magazine has a great demo video of installing standard drawer glides to your cabinet box.

Tip: Use a level to help position the back bracket. If you need to adjust the back bracket you can use a screwdriver to help position it more evenly.

Step 4: Slide Your Drawer Box Into Your Cabinet Box

Once all the glides are installed, you will push the drawer in place and check that the front is flush with the frame. If needed you can adjust the bracket at the back using a screwdriver. Once the glide is properly adjusted, tighten up the screws!
